Leaving the Homeland

So, the political situation, the economic situation, and the point at which we are in our lives, have all converged to make us decide to try to live out was always just a fantasy to me: Living in another country. The target at the moment is New Zealand.

DH is skilled in two of their future growth areas. I come with him.

I am going to try to keep a record of the progress we make, and our ultimate decision.

Right now I am confused by the point system, but it changes on Monday, July 30, at any rate, so I will just wait until then. If DH had a job offer, we would automatically have enough points on our Expression of Interest (EOI) to be Invited To Apply (ITA, in the emigrant lingo I am learning). If we accumulate enough points under the new point system (140 or more), we also will be ITA, even without a job offer. That would be ideal, because then we could look for work with a Residency permit in place.

Anyway. I am very excited about the prospect. I am ready to leave. DH is about 85% ready, he still has reservations. But, he does agree this country is going down the tubes.
